n 2nd November 2024, the West Lake Trail began with great enthusiasm at Baita Industrial Park in Hangzhou. Bringing together runners from around the world, this event celebrated the unique challenge of mountain running, offering participants a chance to immerse themselves in nature’s beauty while pushing their limits.
Through lush forests and over rugged hills
The trail itself was nothing short of breathtaking. Thousands of runners made their way through lush forests and over rugged hills, surrounded by mountains and drifting clouds. Every incline was a test of endurance, and every descent offered a chance to catch one’s breath. More than a competition, it was an opportunity to reconnect with nature—a journey of discovery as much as a physical challenge.
One standout participant was Tao Haiyan, representing Südwolle Group. Taking on the demanding 30-kilometre mountain course, she completed it with determination and resilience, showcasing the spirit of the event.
Partnerships that make a difference
This year, the Südwolle Group collaborated with Swiss outdoor brand super.natural to sponsor the event and provide participants with a specially designed wool long-sleeved shirt. This partnership highlighted the unique qualities of wool as a material perfectly suited for outdoor activities, combining sustainability with practicality.
What sets the shirt apart?
The approach to design focused on three key benefits that cater directly to the needs of trail runners:
Built to Last: Mountain trails are unforgiving, with obstacles like branches and rocks posing constant challenges. The T-shirt is designed with durability in mind, ensuring that it withstands wear and tear, so runners can focus on the trail rather than worrying about their gear.
Soft and Comfortable: Using 16.5-micron Merino wool, Südwolle Group has created a garment that feels light and soft against the skin. This fine wool is a far cry from the itchy fabrics some might associate with wool clothing, allowing for free movement and all-day comfort during long-distance runs.
Moisture Management: Combining wool with COOLMAX® EcoMade fibres, the T-shirt efficiently absorbs sweat and wicks it away from the skin. The result is a garment that keeps runners dry, even in the heat, while maintaining excellent breathability to prevent overheating.
Celebrating the spirit of the trail
The West Lake Trail is more than just a race; it’s a chance to celebrate the joy of movement and the serenity of the natural world. With events like this, people are encouraged to embrace outdoor activities and take a moment to appreciate the landscapes around them.
By supporting the event with their products, super.natural demonstrates a commitment to this lifestyle, offering runners gear that enhances their experience while respecting the environment. Together, the event organisers and sponsors aim to inspire more people to step outside, challenge themselves, and enjoy the simple pleasures of running in nature.
